Yes, it does. Uber takes around 30%. We take a lot less, so the driver keeps far more of every journey. They're already making the trip anyway, they're simply using those extra seats, so the cost split is money straight back in their pocket. Not exactly a second wage, just their running costs covered by someone heading the same way.

A driver could save hundreds a month on petrol, and the passenger saves on train tickets that keep getting more expensive. Everybody wins.

@aayan

I appreciate that, Aayan. You're right. Cars running half-empty while transport gets more expensive is a global problem, not just a UK one. Same core issue wherever you are. Solve it properly in one market and the blueprint travels.

@propfade

Thank you, that means a lot. Changing the world is exactly the goal. UK first to prove the model, then everywhere else the same problem exists.

@senchukov02

Appreciate you clocking the safety-first approach, Illia. That's the foundation, not a feature.

You're exactly right, that density is the next mountain. We're going route by route, starting with the busiest commuter corridors, like London-Surrey, where drivers and riders already overlap. I plan to have one corridor running properly, then we move to the next.

Glad to have you rooting for us.

Hey StartupBase! I'm Michael, founder of Hitch.

I was sitting in traffic one day watching every car around me have empty seats. Millions of people, same roads, same time, completely alone - while train fares keep rising, petrol costs are punishing solo drivers and ULEZ zones keep expanding.

Hitch connects verified drivers and passengers heading the same way to split the actual cost of the journey. Not a taxi, not Uber. Just real people, same destination, shared costs.

Safety is built in from day one: government ID verification, selfie match, women-only mode, live trip sharing and a full ratings system.

The landing page is live at hitchapp.co.uk and founding members are already signing up. Would love your feedback and support. 🚗

Really interesting concept - the problem you're solving is clear and the timing feels right. Would love to see how you approach user acquisition in the early stages.

Solid idea with a clear gap in the market. The verification and trust layer will be key as you scale, it looks like you've thought about that carefully.

Clean execution on the landing page. The value proposition comes through immediately which is hard to get right. Excited to see where this goes.
