How Dethrone works

Dethrone is a public board. There are no ads, no accounts and no review queue. You pay to stand above everyone else, and the 3 highest bids are featured on the StartupBase homepage. Rank is the bid, nothing else.

How ranking works

  • Bids are whole US dollars, $5 minimum, no ceiling. You pay once; there is no subscription and nothing to renew.
  • Your rank is the total ever paid for your website or profile. #1 is the throne; taking any spot costs one dollar more than whoever holds it. Bidding less still puts you on the board at whatever place that bid can take.
  • Equal totals stay in the order they went live: the older card keeps the higher rank.
  • Enter the same URL again to raise your bid. Whatever you add is added to what is already there. Anyone can add to any card; the card's copy only changes for the person who submitted it.
  • The 3 highest bids sit in the sidebar on the StartupBase homepage, product pages, blog posts and listing pages, with a direct link to your site, and go out in every weekly newsletter, until someone outbids them. Every other card stays on this board for good.
  • When you are outbid or pushed off the homepage, we email the address you paid with so you can take it back.

What you can list

  • A product website, or a profile on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube or Threads.
  • Websites are keyed by domain (www. is ignored), profiles by host and handle, so two profiles on the same network never share a card. Query strings and fragments are stripped.
  • We fetch the name, tagline and logo from your site and check it automatically. Gambling, adult content, scams and deceptive sites are not listed, and the check happens before you pay so nobody needs a refund. Profiles are not checked; you write the name and description yourself.
  • Chat and invite links (Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord and the like), link shorteners and affiliate links are not products and will not be listed.
  • We may remove or hide a card that turns out to break these rules or the law. Removal does not refund the bid.

After you pay

  • A completed payment is what claims the rank. Checkout runs through Paddle; the receipt goes to the email you enter there.
  • Your card goes live the moment the payment clears. Anything we couldn't read from your site is asked for before checkout, and you can fix the name, tagline and logo right after paying.
  • Your card links straight to the URL you submitted. Clicks are counted and shown on the board.
  • All sales are final. Sales tax may be added at checkout depending on where you are.
